SUCCESS’s 2023 Nonprofit of the Year: Open Arms of Minnesota

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Community, Abundance, Innovation, and Hope. Those are the values on which Open Arms of Minnesota has established a thriving organization in order to provide medically tailored meals for critically ill Minnesotans and their families. SUCCESS employees selected this organization as their Non-Profit of the year.

SUCCESS President Bruce Lach is passionate about maintaining the company’s 30-year history of giving to those in need. He says, “We work closely with non-profits to ensure our resources positively impact the day-to-day lives of those served. We’re excited that we can have that impact in the community. It’s not just something we do; it’s always been who we are.” Both the money and time volunteered by the people of SUCCESS is what drives this mission forward.

2023 was the inaugural year of the Non-Profit of the Year program at SUCCESS. This initiative is “a way for employees to get further involved in our Community Impact work,” says Director of Talent and Community Engagement Kallie Nichols. “The Non-Profit of the Year program allowed employees to voice what organization they wanted to dedicate their time and resources to, and then they were able to connect with the organization throughout the year in many different outlets.”

In the 2022-2023 fiscal year, Open Arms delivered 1,024,543 meals to clients! Some of the ways SUCCESS helped support this accomplishment this year include:

1. On May 18, Open Arms hosted Moveable Feast, their annual fundraising gala.

Twelve SUCCESS employees and their guests had the honor of attending the event. The evening included games, a live auction, and a surprise dinner — not to mention a reason to dress up and support a wonderful cause!

2. In June, SUCCESS coordinated a group volunteer event.

Eight employees volunteered in the Open Arms Minneapolis kitchen, packaging meals made specifically for the new cultural program, serving East African clients. Stacy, one of SUCCESS’s volunteers, says of the experience, “it warmed my heart listening to the staff at Open Arms talk about fulfilling their missions, and the volunteers who make it all happen day in and day out. In the short time we were there I felt like I was making a difference, and it was a great team building experience as well.” She also remarks that children as young as six years old can volunteer, making this a wonderful volunteer opportunity for families!

3. Throughout the month of October, SUCCESS collected supplies for the Open Arms kitchen.

Staff donated olive oil for Open Arms’ kitchen, as well as liquid nutritional supplements and Mrs. Dash Spice/Seasoning Blends for clients to use alongside their fresh meal.

4. In addition to these fun projects throughout the year, SUCCESS donated a total of $25,000 to Open Arms’ mission. A  large portion of this donation was directly used to feed 2 clients for a whole year.

It was an honor to have such a deep relationship with Open Arms this year. We greatly appreciate the kind words of Ethan Armstrong, Director of Commnications at Open Arms:

SUCCESS stands out as a beacon of exceptional support, going above and beyond to contribute to our mission. Whether it was volunteering in our kitchens or sponsoring Moveable Feast, the entire SUCCESS team has been an example of commitment and investment in nourishing our community.
