The Clare Housing Mission

This organization believes that everyone has value, and everyone deserves housing. HIV can be financially crippling, leaving patients with few options. Clare Housing promotes and encourages good public policy that ensures these individuals can easily access affordable housing and the services they need to maintain their dignity and health.

When people are housed, health improves, medical costs go down, and the further spread of HIV is prevented.

The Importance of Housing

Permanent, supportive housing plays a critical role in ending the HIV epidemic. In a world where the landscape of funding, health care, and HIV is changing at an increasingly fast pace, the team at Clare Housing is committed to remaining nimble in their ability to anticipate and adapt to new challenges.

the organization strives to alleviate issues at the heart of the HIV crisis, improving the lives and outlook for hundreds of people living with HIV in Minnesota.

History of Community Care

Clare Housing began housing individuals diagnosed with AIDS in 1987, when they opened their first Community Care Home for those needing compassionate end-of-life care. Since then, Clare Housing has been on the frontlines of providing quality supportive services and permanent affordable housing solutions for people living with and impacted by HIV/AIDS in the community.

Today, Clare Housing is the largest licensed provider of supportive affordable housing for people living with HIV in Minnesota. Unique in its mission and focused in its execution, Clare Housing is the only organization in Minnesota dedicated to advancing new programs and solutions to address the full-continuum of HIV-related housing needs. Clare Housing is ending homelessness among individuals living with HIV, one move-in at a time.

Paving the Way

People living with HIV experience a higher probability of housing loss and instability due to the disabling and impoverishing effects of HIV. It is estimated that as many as half of all people living with HIV will need housing assistance at some point during their lifetimes. We know that access to affordable, stable and supportive housing is the foundation for achieving an AIDS-free world.

When an individual has access to stable housing they are more likely to remain connected to health care, to be virally suppressed, and to adhere to their medication regimen.

That’s where Clare Housing comes in.

As we increase the number of people living with HIV who maintain stable housing we are reducing HIV health-related disparities and ensuring access to care. Our impact is annually demonstrated by ensuring at least 90% of our residents are linked to health care and virally suppressed and at least 90% of our residents maintain their housing for at least 12 months.

Clare Housing promotes and encourages good public policy that ensures individuals can easily access affordable housing and the services they need to maintain their dignity and health.
